Frequently Asked Questions

What is the financial investment for one session?

The fee is $235 per 50 minute session.

Is this covered by health care or do I have to pay out of pocket?

As a Registered Psychologist in private practice, there is a fee for the service. If you have extended health care benefits, after you have paid for a session out of pocket, you will receive a receipt and can submit this to your benefits provider. You will want to check with your benefits provider to ensure they cover the services of a Registered Psychologist.

What if I have to cancel?

I have a cancellation policy that requests 24 hours notice to cancel a session so that I can try to fill that spot. If at any point you need to cancel, you can call/text/email me and we can cancel or reschedule.

How often should I book in?

There is no "one size fits all" answer. Unless there is an immediate crisis, I suggest booking in every two weeks to start and spreading sessions further apart as you progress. This is a suggestion, and you can book in more or less as you prefer.

How many sessions will I need to come see you before things improve and I can stop booking in?

How quickly you progress and when you will want to stop attending will depend on many things such as: commitment to change, social supports, desired outcome, severity of the situation, level of motivation, etc. Please remember that attending counselling is voluntary. I make the recommendations and you make the decisions.

What happens in the first session?

I like to spend the first session getting to know you and what you hope to get out of counselling. I can lead with questions, you can take initiative and share what is on your heart, but we usually end up with a combination of both.

What kind of clients do you work with?

I work one on one with adults (18+) only. I have competency to work with a variety of presenting issues such as: mental health challenges, grief, disordered eating, trauma survivors, relationship difficulties, and blended family dynamics. If someone comes to me with a concern I am not competent in, I will support them with finding a professional that is trained in that area of concern and refer out.

Will you see my child/teenager?

At this time, I am not accepting children/teenagers as clients.

Do you offer online or virtual sessions?

Yes, I do. Once we have scheduled the appointment, I will send you a link that you will use to join the session. One thing to be aware of is that you need to be within the province of Alberta at the time of the session as I am a Psychologist registered in Alberta.

If I have an emergency outside of session, can I call/text you?

I do not offer emergency services and may not be able to respond to a call/text outside of session. I will reply as soon as I am able, but if you have an emergency please go to your local emergency room or call an emergency hotline.
